What do you know about this picture?

 

The woman was Ayse from village Karsantil and she was executed in May 1938 in the main square of the village.

 

And why her hanging is considered famous?

 

Propably because of the photo I think and the large audience. I think it was the third female hanging in (modern) Turkey.

 

She was hanged during the latter phase of the Dersin Rebellion (1932 - 1938).
She was publicly hanged after Karsantil was recaptured by the Turkish army.
