Does anyone know what the white dress women wear at the stake is called ? I am quite curious why when a woman is being burned they usually where this white long dress. Here’s a photo of my question. Thanks :)

Only the cinematographer and the wardrobe lady really know ;)

(But white does stand out against the background.)

she was executed as the rest of their clothes belonged to the executioner
sometimes even the executioner replaced it with a simple burlap dress
Being executed in a shirt was part of the humiliation of execution
the Marquise de Brinvillier was taken to death in a shirt
