So, I'm pretty sure we all know the standard method of beheading by country in the medieval period to 18th century. England was axe, France was sword, Germany was both with a tendency toward the sword. So, when you think of beheadings in Spain or Portugal, from the 16th-17th centuries, what do you picture?
Based on historical fashions and Spanish films about the Revolt of the Comuneros, my personal thoughts would be:
- Axe and log/round block around 1500-1530s
- Sword with or without block between 1540s-1640s or so
- Chair and sword from 1650s onwards.

 

Didn't they use the one that's like a hammer-struck guillotine?
