It had been an unusually laborious execution. The condemned, a young woman sentenced to to garrote for murder, took more than 14 minutes to die, akwardly strangled by the inexperienced executioner. When she was done, to everybody's relief, she remained there alone in the middle of the execution room, still bound to the pole for the regulation hour, forgotten by the presents, who discretely avoided looking at her, since the sight of the once handsome woman, now just another garroted convict, was too disturbing.
