74] The Search For Kelly Burrows Begins
As the doomed Kelly had desperately wailed in the gas chamber her family was indeed very wealthy & when their daughter disappeared her mother & father flew to London from New York
At the behest of the American Ambassador they were very quickly granted a meeting with a senior officer at New Scotland Yard, Superintendent Harry Mason
Superintendent Mason assured the Burrows that they were doing everything they could to locate their daughter.
James Burrows asked, “Do you have any leads Superintendent?”
“Well Mr Burrows the last confirmed sighting of Kelly was ten days ago when she said goodbye to her friend Sally Kirkland & headed down Kensington High Street. According to Sally she saw Kelly get into conversation with two tall black women who were wearing what looked like some kind of uniform who were also walking down the street. Sally didn’t think anything of it & then lost sight of your daughter as she herself went & caught the tube from the nearby station ”
The officer continued, “I have to ask. Is it at all possible that Kelly decided to take off somewhere, with a boyfriend say?”
Edith Burrows firmly shook her head, “Not Kelly Superintendent. That would be totally out of character”.
Superintendent Mason nodded & said, “Well you know your daughter Mrs Burrows & I can confirm that we are treating her disappearance as suspicious. We intend to involve the media in the search for Kelly. Later on today we will be holding a press conference which I would ask you to attend & we will appeal to the public for information. Are you happy to do this?”
James & Edith looked at each other & James replied, “Of course. We are desperately worried & prepared to do anything that may help find our daughter
Sir Reginald watched the Burrows televised press conference thoughtfully pondering what to do about this unwelcome turn of events
He was spurred into action when in that night’s evening news it was reported that as a result of the earlier press conference a witness had come forward to say that he was sure he had seen Kelly getting into a large black car with two uniformed black women.
He summoned Grace & issued his instructions
