I had previously posted an excerpt from a story.
It turns out the graphic novel adaptation changed a lot of things: for example, while the guillotine blade itself is attached to a firearm, so it combines beheading and shooting ( think more the shooting in the back of the neck style ), the victim is still locked into a guillotine like stock, but while standing up. It seems like this would be an engineering challenge, as you want it tight enough not to slide up and down. You would also need height adjustments.
( Of course in on the spot executions, the stock is rarely actually used, interestingly as it makes the neck a better target this way. )
I ended up making some subplots more behind the scenes. Interestingly, there ended up actually being several times as many beheadings. This is going to end up being a challenge to find a publisher that will publish it.
Another addition as well: beheading itself is not what kills you, but whether the legal system or family thinks it cotinues to be financially viable to keep your severed head alive long enough to get a new body. But they perfected things like regrowing bodies. So you'll have severed heads in permanent statis, with the exception of ones where the entire procedure is completely botched.
How this will wrap into things like brain prosthesis, not sure yet. Also finding my comfort level drawing gore.
