Unfortunately yes. At least in western cinema.
Moreover in my opinion, modern women in prison has lost their feminity regarding in their Behaviour - no longer Damsel in Distress, Uniform - Dresses and Skirts, and traditional female role models - Wife, Daughters, Nurses, Princess etc.

Modern Female Prisoners will not have the same charm of Women in Prison movies of the past.

In these PC days it is expected that a WIP genre cannot be monetized and thus abandoned....there are some exceptions:
