Do not look for historical reality, the trials in Spain were as solemn as in the UK or France, that a woman condemned to death is guarded in a convent is the most unreal, there were nuns in some prisons but they were not the warden.

 

There is scene with the woman in the garotting, although it seems to be a nightmare of the convict, it can be a beautiful execution.
